Super Furry Animals - 9/11/09

Watch the full concert at baeblemusic.com
...Every band should be so lucky to traverse the kind of path Wales' Super Furry Animals have blazed over the course of the near 15 year career. They first appeared on the Reading Festival's main stage in 1996, have released album after stellar album at an unbelievably steady click (all told, their up to 9 at this point) since that time, and are the beneficiaries of wild packs of devotees the world over. In our latest concert performance, the enigmatic ensemble treat several hundred lucky souls of their NYC contingency to an intimate and lengthy performance at the always spectacular, Highline Ballroom.

Bathed in cool puddles of spectacular light, Super Furry Animals douse their kingdom of fans in beaming rays of day-glo melodies, hazy streams of psychedelic leanings, and the kind of full bodied sing along choruses that get their audience bouncing in impressive waves of over exuberated reveling. Yes, it does seem SFA dial their sometimes beastly behavioral tendencies down a bit for this performance. But it's all in the name of performing the hell out of this "Best Of" kind of set. Clocking in damn near an hour and half, this is an absolute monster of show. Don't worry though. If you get lost, leading man Gruff Rhys has got you covered with his big and bold instructional cue cards. - David Pitz...

Hofman's Potion (2002)

This documentary offers a compassionate, open-minded look at LSD and how it fits into our world. Long before Timothy Leary urged a generation to "tune in, turn on and drop out," the drug was hailed as a way to treat forms of addiction and mental illness. At the same time, it was being touted as a powerful tool for mental exploration and self-understanding. Featuring interviews with LSD pioneers, beautiful music and stunning cinematography, this is much more than a simple chronicle of LSD's early days. It's an alternative way of looking at the drug... and our world.

Greaser's Palace - Robert Downey Sr (1972)

...is the gospel according to Downey, set in a Wild West ruled by a tyrant named Seaweedhead Greaser, who collects taxes, keep his mother and his favorite mariachi band in cages and suffers the constipation of the damned. The savior, who arrives by parachute, is a modest young man in a 1940ish zoot suit who simply wants to get to Jerusalem to become an actor-singer. "It's written," he says, "that the agent Morris awaits me."...

...Back in the days when he made movies for $8 apiece and had them developed at Walgreen's—wildly sane movies like "Chafed Elbows" and "No More Excuses" about mother love, war, coping and bestiality, and even when he went comparatively commercial and made "Putney Swope" which is still my favorite film about Madison Avenue, Robert Downey billed himself as "a prince," which he was.

Though he was financially strapped most of the time, he remained resolutely game in that lunatic way that identifies the aristocracy of fools and moviemakers. Downey would try anything and if it didn't work, or wasn't funny, it didn't much matter because it hadn't cost a lot and he'd move right on to something else that probably would work...

Love Your Servitude

Aldus Huxley gave a speech entitled: The Ultimate Revolution on March 20, 1962 at the Berkeley Language Center.

There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution.

Aldous Huxley

Obama is part of a scientific dictatorship being set up that Huxley talked about.

Rainbow Bridge - Jimi Hendrix

...Rainbow Bridge is a 1972 film directed by Chuck Wein that features footage from a Jimi Hendrix concert, and a short piece of conversation between Hartley, Wien and Hendrix. It was mainly financed by Hendrix manager Mike Jeffery, hence his appearance. The film is about Pat Hartley's "spiritual awakening" via a visit to the 'Rainbow Bridge' planetary meditation cult on Maui, where, as part of the proceedings Jimi Hendrix visits to play a concert during a 'Rainbow Bridge' mass meditation/colour/sound "experiment". The "Rainbow Bridge" concert was a free concert by Jimi Hendrix that was held on July 30, 1970, in a horse pasture above Seabury Hall, on the "Upcountry" slopes of Haleakala, the volcano that makes up 75% of the island of Maui, Hawaii, although it probably last erupted in the 1600s, it is officially considered as being active. - A modest audience of a few hundred island hippies, surfers, and students turned up following announcements that Hendrix would play a free concert for a film. Hendrix was also in Hawaii to play the last concert on his 'Cry of Love' tour with his reformed 'Jimi Hendrix Experience' (with Billy Cox replacing Noel Redding on bass & backing vocals. Mitch Mitchell & Cox were also - previously - members of Gypsy Sun and Rainbows). The director Chuck Wein introduced Hendrix' performance (no mention of a group name) as the driving force of this 'Rainbow Bridge' "experiment" , (this title is often mistaken as being the name of the site of this concert rather than the name of this "Planetary meditation" cult). The original cut, not surprisingly used very little of the concert footage, as this was not intended to be a concert film and no music from the performance was released on the official Reprise LP "Rainbow Bridge- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" for contractual reasons and due to the original music soundtrack being unreleasable due to its very substandard sonic quality on account of strong winds that day. The album does include, however, the studio tracks featured in the film. However, the music from the concert was distributed as a bootleg recording for three decades, before Radioactive Records released this same bootleg recording on the 2003 album, The Rainbow Bridge Concert: The Early Show until it was withdrawn due to a court action by 'Experience Hendrix' which makes this officially a 'bootleg' CD release. The 'Rainbow Bridge' concert was the penultimate performance by Hendrix in the United States, his last was two days later on 01 August 1970, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hendrix died less than two months later on September 18, 1970 in London, England.

Hip Hop and Freemasonry - Culture Creation and the Shape of Things to Come

This work examines hip hop from it's inception and it's ties to secret societies, the role culture plays in molding, shaping and directing the masses and looks at where exactly we are being directed to

InformationLiberation Review:
This is one of the best films I have ever seen, a veritable treatise on the culture creation industry, this film shows how the rap industry specifically has not only shaped the minds of people, but guided them into a pre-programmed and artificial 'manufactured future' in which we will all be reduced to nothing more than slaves on a global plantation. This film is not just for those who follow the rap culture, but for anyone who wishes to reclaim their mind for themselves, anyone who wishes to no longer be the slave of unseen forces and wants to begin staking control over their own mind. This film is an absolute must see. - Chris

Harvest (2008)

HARVEST is a "musical-docu-drama". The film tells the story of a Rasta man trying to leave his island to see the world and become a musician. For island people it is very difficult to obtain a visa, let alone make enough money for flights and expenses.

Jahweve decides to grow weed in the mountains, to obtain the means to follow his dreams of traveling and becoming a touring musician. But his mission is not an easy one, since the army helicopters are flying around the island frequently arresting farmers, and burning their marijuana fields.

The movie was shot primarily in St. Lucia, using local people as actors. There is also footage which was shot in India and europe. Most of the dialogues were improvised in Patois. Intertwined with the dialogue scenes, we see the band on stage, surrounded by the movie itself, performing the songs that tell us the story...

the Penultimate Truth about Philip K Dick

...baruyero produced this documentary in 2007 about the mystical experiences of sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick...

...Philip K. Dick is considered by many to be one the world's greatest science fiction writers ever; as a sufferer from mental illness himself he had the ability to turn his hallucinations about the universe into an extraordinary writing career.
During his lifetime, Dick produced an astonishing amount of prize winning novels and short stories, which were translated into more than 25 languages. Three of his literary works were transformed into blockbuster movies: Blade Runner, Minority Report and Total Recall.
Several years before his death, Philip started having mystical experiences that affected his everyday life. As a result, he started to wonder if what he had imagined for his stories was real and if life was just an illusion or the creation of each person's subjectivity.
This in-depth program explores Philip K. Dick`s world, a universe full of mysteries and intrigues...

Nina Simone - Live 1961-1962

Nina Simone has always been hard to classify. The "High Priestess of Soul" was trained as a classical pianist, but branched out early into pop, gospel, jazz and blues, playing and singing everyone's compositions and writing many of her own. At 28 years old, she had already been seen in many clubs and had recorded several LPs when in 1961-62 she agreed to be filmed, without audience, in a New York City studio.
On the1961 date, Nina Simone, on piano and vocals is accompanied by Bobby Hamilton (percussion), Chris White (bass) and Al Schackman (guitar). This is the same group that had backed her at the Newport Jazz Festival the year before. In 1962 she headed back to the studio and performs with Montego Joe (congas), Lisle Atkinson (bass), Paul Palmieri (guitar), and Warren Smith (percussion). At that time, she was playing with this group of musicians at the New York City jazz venue The Village Gate. Selections include: Sunday in Savannah, I'll Look Around, When I Was in My Prime, Zungo (a Nigerian chain gang song taught her by the great drummer Babatunde Olatunji), For All We Know, Strawberry Woman, Crab Man..., I Loves You, Porgy (from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess) and some jazz improvisation. These are two rare performances, captured live, that every Nina Simone fan will treasure

Drums of Passion

Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji enjoyed a rich musical legacy during his lifetime. He is credited as being one of the first musicians to bring genuine African music to Western ears en masse, having burst on the scene in 1959 with his debut, Drums of Passion. Here he is warming up for the Deadin 1986.

It was the first known album of traditional West African drumming and chants to be recorded in the United States (Olatunji moved to Atlanta in 1950 before relocating permanently to New York City), and was released during a high tide of political and cultural change-- including appearing alongside epochal jazz recordings by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, and Ornette Coleman. As listeners were exposed to different styles and the collective interest in world music and jazz continued to grow in popularity, Olatunji helped turn people's attention away from the corny melodies that dominated the exotica genre fad by offering authentic, captivating songs from his native homeland.

Cremaster 2 - Mathew Barney

...American visual artist and filmmaker Matthew Barney is best known for his epic Cremaster Cycle, a project consisting of five feature length films and related sculptures, photographs, drawings, and artist's books. The Cremaster Cycle was made over a period of eight years (1994-2002) and culminated in a major museum exhibition organized by Nancy Spector of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, which traveled to the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and the Musée d'art Moderne in Paris from 2002-03. Barney's longtime collaborator Jonathan Bepler composed and arranged the soundtracks for the films.

Watch cremaster 2 in Entertainment | View More Free Videos Online at Veoh.com
...CREMASTER 2 is rendered as a gothic Western that introduces conflict into the system. On the biological level it corresponds to the phase of fetal development during which sexual division begins. In Matthew Barney's abstraction of this process, the system resists partition and tries to remain in the state of equilibrium imagined in Cremaster 1. Cremaster 2 embodies this regressive impulse through its looping narrative, moving from 1977, the year of Gary Gilmore's execution, to 1893, when Harry Houdini, who may have been Gilmore's grandfather, performed at the World's Columbian Exposition. The film is structured around three interrelated themes - the landscape as witness, the story of Gilmore (played by Barney), and the life of bees - that metaphorically describe the potential of moving backward in order to escape one's destiny. Both Gilmore's kinship to Houdini (played by Norman Mailer) and his correlation with the male bee are established in the séance/conception scene in the beginning of the film, during which Houdini's spirit is summoned and Gilmore's father expires after fertilizing his wife. Gilmore's sense of his own doomed role as drone is expressed in the ensuing sequence in a recording studio where Dave Lombardo, former drummer of Slayer, is playing a solo to the sound of swarming bees. A man shrouded by bees with the voice of Steve Tucker, lead vocalist of Morbid Angel, growls into a telephone. Collectively these figures allude to Johnny Cash, who is said to have called Gilmore on the night of his execution in response to the convict's dying wish.[4]

Barney depicts Gilmore's murder of a Mormon gas station attendant in both sculptural and dramatic forms. Inferring that Gilmore killed out of a longing for union with his girlfriend, Nicole Baker, he represents their relationship through two conjoined cars: the blue and the white 1966 Mustangs that they coincidentally both owned. In the murder sequence, Gilmore shoots his victim in the back of the head. This act sets in motion the trial and verdict that will condemn him to death, a sentence he embraces despite all efforts to overturn it. Barney stages the judgment of Gilmore in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Gilmore welcomes death, refusing to appeal his sentence and opting for execution by firing squad, in a literal interpretation of the Mormon belief that blood must be shed in order for a sinner to obtain salvation. His execution is staged as a prison rodeo in a cast-salt arena in the middle of the flooded Bonneville Salt Flats. Gilmore is lowered onto a bull and he rides to his death. In Barney's interpretation of the execution, Gilmore was less interested in attaining Mormon redemption than in performing a chronological two-step that would return him to the space of his alleged grandfather, Houdini, with whom he identified the notion of freedom through self-transformation. Seeking escape from his fate, he chose death in an act of ultimate self-will. Gilmore's metaphoric transportation back to the turn of the century is rendered in a dance sequence featuring the Texas two-step. The film ends in the Columbian Exposition hall where Houdini is approached by Gilmore's grandmother Baby Fay La Foe who will seduce him, an act that sets in motion the circular narrative of Cremaster 2.[5]

Coping with Babylon

..Rastafari is known to the world through reggae music. Many interviewees in Oliver Hill’s Coping with Babylon: the Proper Rastology, who live Rastafari in their daily lives, cite Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Dennis Brown in particular as ambassadors of Jamaica’s great folk religion, never seeking to diminish these musicians’ roles in spreading the word...
...Rastafarian imagery has infiltrated popular culture not just through reggae and other kindred music, but also in the form of clothing, fashion, and general iconography. Despite the well-established co-option of the religion’s trappings and the tremendous popularity of many reggae, dub, and dancehall artists, Coping with Babylon: the Proper Rastology takes a sober, relatively non-musical path in broadcasting the views and roles of Rastafari in the early twenty-first century...

RiP - a Remix Manifesto

...In RiP: A remix manifesto, Web activist and filmmaker Brett Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age, mashing up the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers...
...The film’s central protagonist is Girl Talk, a mash-up musician topping the charts with his sample-based songs. But is Girl Talk a paragon of people power or the Pied Piper of piracy? Creative Commons founder, Lawrence Lessig, Brazil’s Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil and pop culture critic Cory Doctorow are also along for the ride.

A participatory media experiment, from day one, Brett shares his raw footage at opensourcecinema.org, for anyone to remix. This movie-as-mash-up method allows these remixes to become an integral part of the film. With RiP: A remix manifesto, Gaylor and Girl Talk sound an urgent alarm and draw the lines of battle.

Which side of the ideas war are you on?

Neil Young - Get Around

...In this EXCLUSIVE WORLD PREMIERE film, Neil Young takes you behind the wheel of LincVolt, a 1959 Lincoln Continental converted to run on alternative, earth-friendly fuels. Young crosses America in this remarkable vehicle, singing in real time tracks from his brand new album "Fork In The Road." A beautiful, minimalist road movie, from Young's filmmaking alter ego Bernard Shakey...
Get Around

...Of the new album, UnCut Magazine says: “FORK IN THE ROAD finds Young back in his rusted-
out garage, looking under the hood of a world badly in need of an overhaul. Employing the classic American metaphor of the endless highway, he sets out on a road trip through these troubled times, finding much to fret about, but fueled by the dogged belief that we can get through this mess.”

the Beach Boys - It's O.K. (1976)

...in the first in a new series of classic concerts here on MojoTV, we flashback to NBC's hilarious TV special from 1976...

Watch The Beach Boys in Concert in Music | View More Free Videos Online at Veoh.com
...The show, which was produced by Saturday Night Live's executive producer Lorne Michaels, was based around the group's 15th anniversary, their new 15 Big Ones album, and the full time return of Brian Wilson to the group, kicking off the legendary "Brian's Back" publicity campaign.

The show's sketch in which Saturday Night Live's John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd pose as California Highway Patrolmen and force an overweight Brian out of bed to go surfing after issuing him a citation for failing to surf, has gone on to be one of rock and roll's greatest comedic moments. Later that year, photographer Annie Leibovitz used a photo of the bathrobed Brian holding a surfboard for an iconic cover of Rolling Stone.
